Francesca Soavi is an Associate Professor in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bologna's Department of Chemistry 'Giacomo Ciamician' since 2008. She specializes in electrochemical energetics, focusing on materials for energy storage/conversion systems such as supercapacitors, lithium-ion batteries, and microbial fuel cells. Her research integrates electrochemical and chemical-physical studies with material synthesis for applications in transport, stationary systems, and water treatment. She co-founded the UNIBO spin-off Bettery Srl (2018) and actively participates in projects like HyFlow H2020 and BattValue.
She holds national qualifications as a Full Professor in Inorganic Chemistry, Principles of Chemistry for Applied Technologies, Physical Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering. Her institutional roles include Secretary General of The International Society of Electrochemistry (2024–2026), and leadership positions in Division 3 (Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion) from 2015–2020. She also serves on the management board of GISEL (Italian group for electrochemical energy storage) and the Battery European Partnership Association (BEPA) Technical Working Group 5 on sustainability.
Her research interests emphasize sustainable materials and green energy systems, including CO2 valorization, bioelectrochemical systems, and eco-friendly supercapacitors. She collaborates with industry partners and drives initiatives for clean energy and environmental remediation.
Her scientific achievements are highlighted by 135+ peer-reviewed publications, 10 invited book chapters, 2 patents, and an h-index of 39 (Scopus). She has over 4,900 citations, reflecting her impact in electrochemical energy research. No specific scientific awards are explicitly listed, but her qualifications and project leadership roles underscore her expertise.
In advising and grants, she trains young researchers in energy systems and manages projects like the THOR initiative. Her lab, the Laboratory of Electrochemistry of Materials for Energetics, focuses on material synthesis and characterization for batteries, supercapacitors, and fuel cells. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and industrial partners is central to her work, aiming to bridge academic research with real-world applications.
