Francesca M. Kerton

Francesca M. Kerton is Professor of Chemistry at Memorial University, researching green chemistry solutions including CO₂ utilization, sustainable polymers, and aquaculture waste valorization. She directs projects converting shellfish waste into functional materials and catalysts.

Her group develops catalytic systems for cyclic carbonate synthesis, biochar applications, and mechanochemical chitin processing. Research often utilizes marine biomass like mussel shells and fish bones to create calcium acetate de-icers, nacre analogs, and hydroxyapatite nanoparticles.

Kerton authored 'Alternative Solvents for Green Chemistry' (RSC Publishing) and co-edited 'Fuels, Chemicals and Materials from the Oceans'. She collaborates with CIRCUIT on carbon utilization technologies.
