Joel Finnis

Joel Finnis is a Professor and Department Head in the Department of Geography at Memorial University of Newfoundland. He is an atmospheric scientist whose research bridges natural science with social science, focusing on climate-environmental change, risk communication, and climate adaptation planning.

His research combines observations and climate model outputs to validate projections, quantify uncertainty, and understand climate processes. Current projects analyze marine weather hazards, climate adaptation for coastal communities, and green infrastructure solutions. He co-leads the Coast & Ocean Risk Communication Community of Practice (CORCCoP), fostering collaboration between academics, practitioners, and stakeholders.
