Dr. Francesca Dominici is the Clarence James Gamble Professor of Biostatistics, Population, and Data Science at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Director of the Harvard Data Science Initiative at Harvard University. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and the International Society of Mathematical Statistics. Recognized by TIME100 Health (2024) and the Mosteller Statistician of the Year (2022), her work focuses on machine learning, AI, and causal inference applied to environmental and climate policy. Her research on air pollution has influenced U.S. air quality standards.
Dr. Dominici leads the National Studies on Air Pollution and Health Group (NSAPH) and co-leads the BUSPH-HSPH Climate Change and Health Research Coordinating Center (CAFE). She has held roles such as Senior Associate Dean for Research at Harvard Chan School and advocate for women faculty advancement.
Her research interests include data science methodologies for climate change, environmental health impacts, and regulatory policy. Notable studies address air pollution’s effects on cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s, and social mobility. Her work has been featured in major media outlets like the New York Times and BBC.
Dr. Dominici’s grants include NIH-funded projects on extreme weather, air pollution modeling, and health disparities. She oversees the Harvard Data Science Initiative, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and seed funding for data science initiatives.
