Francesc Bars Cortina

Francesc Bars Cortina is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). He specializes in Iwasawa Theory, Modular Curves, and Number Theory, with a focus on arithmetic properties of modular curves and function fields. He has held continuous research positions since his Ph.D. in 2001 and has been accredited for a Full Professor position by AQU in 2023.

Education: Ph.D. in Mathematics (2001) and Degree in Mathematics (1995), both from UAB. He conducted postdoctoral research with Christopher Deninger’s team at the University of Münster (1998–2000).

Research interests include developing Iwasawa Theory for function fields of positive characteristic and studying modular curves’ automorphism groups. Key contributions include the 2020 paper on the Iwasawa main conjecture for Carlitz cyclotomic extensions and the 2021 paper on automorphism groups of modular curves with square-free levels.

Awarded over 150 reviews for MathSciNet and Zentralblatt, and currently reviews Prof. Kazuya Kato’s work. He co-organized workshops like STNB and presented at international conferences (e.g., Zagreb 2023, Busan 2022).

Supervised 20 students, including E. Badr. Active in grants like 'VALORACIONES NO ARQUIMEDIANAS' (2021–2025) and earlier projects on arithmetic geometry.
