Frances S Mair is the Norie Miller Professor of General Practice and Head of General Practice and Primary Care at the University of Glasgow's College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. She also serves as Director of the Multimorbidity PhD Programme for Health Professionals and holds a Visiting Professorship at the University of Melbourne. Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2022, Professor Mair leads major international research initiatives funded by Wellcome Trust, NIHR, and MRC.
Her research focuses on multimorbidity, treatment burden, and e-health implementation, with particular expertise in Normalization Process Theory. Professor Mair examines how patients manage multiple long-term conditions across diverse populations including socioeconomically deprived communities, African settings, and homeless populations. Recent work develops AI-assisted tools for medication review optimization and patient-reported outcome measures like PETS-Stroke.
Professor Mair's publication record shows consistent high-impact output with over 400 works including recent articles in BMC Medicine, Stroke, and British Journal of General Practice. Her research demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between primary care, digital health, health economics, and social determinants of health.
