Frances Barrett is a Lecturer in the Department of Fine Art at Monash University, specializing in contemporary art practices that explore performance, sound, and installation. She holds a PhD from Monash Art Design and Architecture (2021) and is a recipient of the Katthy Cavaliere Fellowship (2019). Her work often involves interdisciplinary collaborations and critical engagements with themes such as embodiment, affect, and queer theory.
Barrett’s research and artistic practice emphasize immersive experiences, including sound installations and live performances. She is a founding member of the cyberfeminist collective VNS Matrix and collaborates with groups like Barbara Cleveland, presenting exhibitions at institutions such as the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) and Goulburn Regional Art Gallery.
