Prof. Franca Contratto is a Full Professor of Private Law, Corporate Law & Securities Regulation at the University of Lucerne's Faculty of Law. She currently serves as Vice President for Personnel and Professorships and holds roles in the Swiss Federal Audit Oversight Authority (FAOA) and Swiss Takeover Board (TOB). Her research focuses on financial market regulation, enforcement mechanisms, and the impact of new technologies in financial sectors. She co-directs the Institute for Business and Regulation (WiRe) and co-heads the Faculty’s ‘primius’ scholarship program.
Education: LL.M. from Georgetown University and SNSF-funded research. Prior roles included positions at Zurich University, the Max Planck Institute, and UBS AG. Awards include the Joseph Vigener Prize and Walther Hug Award. She has authored a habilitation thesis on pluralism in capital market enforcement and contributed to Swiss financial legislation (FinSA).
Leadership roles include Vice-Rector for Personnel Resources (since 2025) and Swiss Federal Audit Oversight Authority Vice-President (2024–present). Her teaching spans contracts law, company law, and financial markets regulation. She also holds guest professorships and advises on EU regulatory developments through the European Company Law Experts group.
