Fran Wilde is a Visiting Professor at Vermont College of Fine Arts (VCFA), where they joined the faculty in summer 2022. They specialize in creative writing across genres such as speculative fiction, science fiction, fantasy, horror, poetry, and non-fiction. Wilde holds an MFA in Poetry and an MA in Information Architecture and Interaction Design, which influence their experimental storytelling and structural playfulness.
Education includes an MFA in Poetry from VCFA itself and an MA in Information Architecture and Interaction Design from another institution (not specified). These degrees inform their unique approach to blending language, technology, and narrative innovation.
Research interests revolve around liminal spaces—both in age-group transitions (children to adults) and genre boundaries (reality to fantasy, science fiction to horror). They emphasize resilience, curiosity, and iterative processes in their creative work, often exploring themes like technology’s societal impact, moral dilemmas, and whimsical wonder. Their projects range from cyberpunk crime serials in post-apocalyptic Tokyo to high-stakes engineering narratives on Mars, while also delving into secondary-world fantasy stories with magical elements.
As managing editor of The Sunday Morning Transport, Wilde collaborates with authors to publish weekly speculative short fiction, contributing to its success in best-of lists. They remain passionate about fostering creativity in their students, particularly through the ‘try-fail-try’ process, and believe speculative fiction will continue to captivate younger audiences.
