Achilleas Fotakis is a Lecturer in the Department of Social Anthropology and History at the University of the Aegean. He holds a PhD in modern history (NKUA, 2016) and teaches courses on history education and ideology. His research focuses on policing history, gender studies, and Jewish history.
Education:
- Law degrees from the University of Thessaloniki (2009) and Birkbeck, University of London (2010)
- PhD in Modern History (National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, 2016)
- Pedagogy certification from ASPAITE (2016)
Research Interests:
- History of policing and security institutions
- Gender and legal frameworks in 20th-century Greece
- Jewish communities in Salonica and their historical narratives
- WWII memory and postwar state restructuring
Recent Research Trends: His publications explore intersections between security practices, economic policies, and gender dynamics, with a focus on Greek historical contexts. Recent work analyzes WWII memory in police narratives and postwar economic-security linkages.
