She holds affiliations with the Clinical Science and Services department and contributes to the CPCS Research Programme and Small Animal Soft Tissue Surgery clinical group.
Education:
- DVM, Utrecht University (2010, summa cum laude)
- Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine, Utrecht University
- PhD in Insulinoma Pathobiology, Utrecht University (2016)
- Residency, European College of Veterinary Surgeons
Research Interests: Her work focuses on translational oncology, particularly endocrine cancers (e.g., insulinoma) in dogs and humans. She investigates novel diagnostic tools, personalized treatments, cancer stem cell dynamics, and genomic drivers of malignancy using molecular techniques like RNA sequencing and tissue microarray analysis.
Publication Trends: Recent articles (2022-2025) emphasize epidemiological patterns of canine insulinoma, advanced diagnostic imaging, and therapeutic innovations. Earlier work (2014-2020) established foundational insights into cancer stem cells, genomic alterations in endocrine tumors, and comparative oncology models.
Awards:
- Rubicon Fellowship, Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research
- Stipend, Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development
Teaching & Advising: She supervises Senior Clinical Training Scholars, teaches BVetMed students in soft tissue surgery, and leads the CPD course Current Concepts in Small Animal Endocrine Surgical Oncology. Her grant portfolio supports research into insulinoma therapeutics and the RVC Cancer Biobank.
Laboratories & Initiatives: She collaborates with the National Cancer Institute (USA) and co-leads the RVC Cancer Biobank, which standardizes biospecimen collection for precision oncology in veterinary and human medicine.
