Florian Wöller is a tenured Associate Professor of Church History at the Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen. He previously held academic positions at the University of Basel (2010–2016) and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (2016–2018). His research bridges Late Antique Christianity and Medieval Scholasticism, with a current focus on urban processions in late antiquity.
Education:
- PhD in Theology, University of Basel (2013)
- Diploma in Theology (MA-equivalent), University of Göttingen (2008)
- Studies in Theology and Philosophy at universities in Münster, Rome, and Berlin (2001–2008)
Research Interests:
Wöller's work explores the interplay of religion, space, and intellectual history. His late antique research examines how processions shaped urban environments in cities like Constantinople and Antioch, while his medieval studies analyze scholastic epistemology, university culture, and theological methodologies. He is currently writing a monograph on processions in late antique urban spaces (300–600 AD).
Publication Trends:
Recent works (2021–2025) reflect dual emphases: Late Antique urban rituals (e.g., processions in Antioch/Constantinople) and Medieval scholastic theology (e.g., Dominican intellectual history, theories of science). His articles consistently integrate spatial, cultural, and theological analysis across both periods.
Awards:
- Junior Researcher in Residence (2017)
- Lecturer of the Year, University of Copenhagen (2023)
