Florian Hoefner is an Assistant Professor in Jazz Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland's School of Music. Holding a B.Mus. from Universität der Künste Berlin and an M.Mus. from Manhattan School of Music, he is a Juno Award-winning pianist and composer renowned for blending modern jazz with cross-genre elements. His trio's 2022 album Desert Bloom won the Juno Award for Jazz Album of the Year: Group. He has performed globally with groups like Subtone and the Atlantic Jazz Collective, earning accolades including the 2015 Stingray Rising Star Award and multiple East Coast Music nominations. His research focuses on contemporary jazz composition, improvisation techniques, and fusion with Indie Rock/Bluegrass traditions.
