Anna Webber is a flutist, saxophonist, and composer affiliated with the New England Conservatory, specifically in the Jazz Studies department of the College division. She holds a BA from McGill University and two Master of Music degrees from Manhattan School of Music and Berlin’s Universität der Künste Jazz Institute. Her work bridges avant-garde jazz and new classical music, with notable albums like Shimmer Wince and Idiom, praised for their visionary and experimental approach.
Her accolades include the Guggenheim Fellowship (2018), Berlin Prize (2021), and Downbeat Magazine recognitions. Webber leads multiple ensembles, including the Simple Trio and a big band, and collaborates with artists like Dan Weiss and Roscoe Mitchell. She has received grants from the Copland Fund, New York Foundation for the Arts, and others, alongside residencies at MacDowell Colony and Millay Colony for the Arts.
Her research interests focus on expanding jazz through experimental techniques like Just Intonation, blending classical and improvisational elements. Webber’s discography includes critically acclaimed releases, with Both Are True (2020) named among the New York Times’ top ten jazz albums.
