Prof. Florian Einsiedl is a Full Professor (Chair of Hydrogeology) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) since 2012. He leads the Department of Hydrogeology within the TUM School of Engineering and Design. His research focuses on groundwater ecosystems, hydraulic processes, and biogeochemical mechanisms in aquifers, leveraging stable isotope technology to ensure sustainable management of drinking water resources.
Academic Background: Prof. Einsiedl earned his Diplom (1996) and PhD (2000) in Geology from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He completed a postdoc at the Helmholtz Research Center (2000-2003) and habilitated in Biogeochemistry at the University of Bayreuth (2010). Previous roles include Associate Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (2009-2012) and senior researcher positions in Ireland and Germany.
Research Interests: His work bridges hydrogeology, biogeochemistry, and environmental engineering, addressing challenges in groundwater sustainability, geothermal energy systems, and contaminant fate. Key tools include isotope tracing, numerical modeling, and field-scale experiments in heterogeneous aquifers.
Projects & Labs: Active in initiatives like the Geothermal Alliance Bavaria and the Geo.KW Tool Berlin. Oversees laboratories focused on hydrogeology and geothermal energy experiments, advancing technologies for energy storage and aquifer characterization.
