Florent Miane is a Lecturer in contemporary art history at the University of Western Brittany, affiliated with the Breton and Celtic Research Center (CRBC). His research examines the intersection of visual culture, pedagogy, and technical reproduction, with emphasis on architectural photography's role in land use planning, educational methods, and popular media.
Research focuses include:
- Discourse analysis of architectural photography
- Integration of photographic materials in university teaching
- Relationship between graphic design and popular culture
- Technical reproducibility of images in urban planning contexts
His publications concentrate on 19th-20th century French visual culture, analyzing photography's evolution in documenting architecture, industrial design, and commercial branding. Recurring themes include regional identity, colonial imagery in advertising, and pedagogical uses of visual archives.
Administratively, Miane co-founded the Musée vivant de l’imprimerie and established two heritage preservation associations (Imprimerie PAM and Patrimoine visuel). He regularly organizes academic colloquiums on visual culture and serves as exhibition curator for photographic archives.
