Dr. Albarello's research focuses on social psychological determinants of prejudice, particularly regarding migration and intergroup relations. Her work examines dehumanization processes, social identity development in adolescence, linguistic discrimination, and the psychological mechanisms underlying prejudice toward immigrants. She investigates how factors such as need for cognitive closure, cultural tightness-looseness, and multiple categorization influence intergroup attitudes. Her research integrates developmental, social, and cognitive perspectives to understand prejudice formation and reduction strategies, with particular attention to adolescent populations and classroom contexts.
Her recent publications reveal a strong focus on prejudice toward immigrants, examining how pandemic-related threats, cognitive closure, and cultural tightness influence attitudes. She has conducted longitudinal studies on identity development in adolescence and its relationship to prejudice, and has explored how language reflects and reinforces intergroup biases. Her work consistently applies social identity theory and cognitive approaches to understand prejudice mechanisms across different contexts.
