Firas H. Kobaissy

Firas H. Kobaissy serves as Professor of Neurobiology at Morehouse School of Medicine and Associate Director of the Center for Neurotrauma, MultiOmics & Biomarkers (CNMB), focusing on traumatic brain injury mechanisms and biomarker discovery through proteomics and systems biology approaches.

His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Florida, Master of Life Science from Bowling Green State University, and BSc. in Medical Lab Technology from the American University of Beirut, complemented by a postdoctoral fellowship in Psychiatry at the University of Florida.

Research centers on TBI pathophysiology using animal models, with emphasis on neurotherapeutic interventions for TBI/epilepsy, drug abuse neurotoxicity, and multi-omics biomarker development for TBI, Alzheimer's disease, and epilepsy. The laboratory employs proteomics to map protein interactions and identify diagnostic markers.

Recent publications (2022-2023) demonstrate consistent focus on TBI biomarker discovery through inflammasome analysis, glycomics, and mitochondrial-targeted therapeutics like Mitoquinone, revealing connections between metabolic dysregulation, neuroinflammation, and chronic neurological outcomes.
