Fiona Shaw is an academic and author affiliated with Northumbria University, where she holds a Researcher position. She earned a PhD in Literature in 1987 and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2015. Her work spans creative writing, memoir, and fiction, with notable publications including the memoir Out of Me (1997) and novels like Outwalkers (2018), which received multiple awards including Carnegie nomination and regional book awards.
Her research interests include narrative studies, postpartum depression, and creative writing practices. She supervises postgraduate research, such as Helen James' study on Beyond the Obvious: The Role of Quiet Photographs in Memoir Essays. Fiona's work has been adapted into film, including Tell It to the Bees (2018), starring Anna Paquin and Holliday Grainger.
