Fiona Muirhead is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Strathclyde's Department of Physical Activity And Health. Her research focuses on behavior change interventions for hard-to-reach populations, including youth with special health needs, adults with intellectual disabilities, and individuals with chronic pain. She leads projects like 'We-Belong: Wearables for Better Mental Health' and co-supervises studies on digital interventions for physical activity and chronic pain management.
Education: Doctor of Social Science from the University of Edinburgh (2012), specializing in adolescent physical activity engagement. Prior roles include Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, where she contributed to the Walk Well RCT for intellectual disabilities.
Current grants include investigations into 24-hour movement behaviors in young people with intellectual disabilities and a focus on ADHD experiences in women. Awards include a Chancellor’s Fellowship and recognition for her work in digital health methodologies like screenomics.
She supervises three graduate projects: leading a digital intervention for adults with intellectual disabilities, co-designing pain management tools, and co-supervising a chronic pain self-management tool development. Collaborations span institutions like Haukeland University Hospital and NHS Greater Glasgow.
