Fiona McNeill is Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at McMaster University, with cross-disciplinary research at the physics-biology-medicine interface. Her work develops non-invasive analytical techniques for elemental analysis in living systems and investigates biological effects of radiation exposure.
Research focuses on:
- Development of portable XRF systems for in vivo metal analysis
- Radiation-induced biological responses including bystander effects
- Biomedical applications of neutron activation analysis
- Toxic metal accumulation and speciation
- Medical physics instrumentation development
Research integrates radiation physics, analytical chemistry, and toxicology to address clinical and environmental health challenges, including studies of gadolinium retention from contrast agents, lead exposure assessment, and occupational metal toxicity.
