Jeroen Thompson is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at McMaster University. His work bridges nuclear physics, radiation dosimetry, and geochronology, with a focus on electron spin resonance (EPR) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) techniques.
Research highlights include the development of radiation detection technologies, such as scCVD diamond detectors for alpha particles, and applications of EPR/OSL dosimetry to retrospective radiation exposure and archaeological dating. His publications span nuclear physics, health physics, and paleoanthropology, with notable contributions to radiation defect analysis and Pleistocene human evolution in the Balkans.
Recent scholarly activity (2015-2021) emphasizes radiation detection methodologies, thermal regime modeling, and cross-disciplinary applications of physics in biological and geological contexts. Articles from 2020-2021 address radiation defect analysis, ocular radiation effects, and thermal biology. Earlier work (2013-2015) includes EPR/OSL dosimetry standardization and Balkan hominin dating.
