Fiona Burrows holds a PhD in Literature from the University of Western Australia and has been affiliated with the institution since 2009. She currently works as a Casual Teaching staff member, coordinating academic writing and research units while advising on learning skills and alternative entry pathways. Her research bridges literature and science, focusing on synaesthesia in poetry, health humanities, and creative pedagogy.

Research Interests: Fiona explores the intersection of neuroscience and poetics, particularly synaesthetic metaphors in 20th-century poetry. Her work emphasizes embodied cognition and the application of neuroscientific principles in art.
Publications & Awards: Her picturebooks, including Violet and Nothing and The Friendly Games, have been shortlisted for major literary prizes. Recent awards include recognition in NSW and WA for children's literature and historical writing.
Teaching & Engagement: Fiona coordinates academic skills programs, teaches creative writing and poetry, and actively promotes literacy through workshops in schools and libraries. She has presented at festivals like Sydney Writers' Festival and exhibited artwork tied to her publications.
