Fiona Brook is a Lecturer in Counselling and Deputy Course Lead for the BSc Psychology and Counselling programme at Birmingham City University's Department of Psychology. She is a BACP registered and UKCP accredited psychotherapist/counsellor with clinical practice since 2017 and lecturing experience since 2021, while concurrently operating a private psychotherapy practice.
Educational and professional background:
- Studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)
- Worked in Tanzania and Kenya within the not-for-profit sector prior to psychotherapy training
Her research focuses intensely on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) challenges within the psychotherapy and counselling profession, with specific emphasis on dismantling barriers to counselling training accessibility. She integrates practical field experience from international development work with clinical expertise to advocate for systemic inclusivity reforms in therapeutic education. This dual perspective bridges academic instruction and real-world therapeutic practice within mental health services.
