Finn Wynstra is a Professor of Purchasing and Supply Management at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, and a fellow of the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM). From 2004 until 2019, he held an Endowed Chair sponsored by the Dutch Association for Purchasing Management (NEVI). His academic journey includes previous positions at Eindhoven University of Technology and Jönköping International Business School in Sweden, with visiting appointments at institutions across Germany, Sweden, the UK, and US.
Professor Wynstra's research focuses on purchasing and supply management, particularly the interplay of supply and innovation processes, and buyer-supplier relations in business service contexts. His work spans service triads (buyer-supplier-customer relationships), performance-based contracting, procurement ethics, and purchasing strategy development. He employs diverse methodologies from qualitative case studies to quantitative analysis and, more recently, advanced text mining techniques for literature reviews.
His recent publications (2022-2025) reveal growing attention to ethical dimensions of procurement, with studies measuring questionable purchasing practices and exploring the 'grey side' of procurement. His work on service triads continues to evolve, examining formation, functioning, and feedback mechanisms in complex buyer-supplier-customer relationships. Methodologically, he has incorporated text mining and network analytics to map the landscape of purchasing and supply management research.
