Filiz Yildirim serves as a DAAD-Lektorin within the German Section of the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. She is affiliated with both Gonville & Caius College and St John's College, where she supervises students across all undergraduate years.
Education:
- Joint Double Degree in History and French (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz & University of Burgundy Dijon)
- Master's in Conference Interpreting (German/French/English) (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz)
- Academic exchanges at University of Mons (Belgium), Bosphorus University Istanbul (Turkey), and Monash University Melbourne (Australia)
- Currently enrolled in Master's Program in Arts and Cultural Management (Leuphana University Lüneburg, since September 2024)
Her teaching focuses on advanced German grammar, German through Media, and Translation from English into German. She actively supervises Speaking and Use of German, Translation into German, and German Text and Culture papers for college students, emphasizing contemporary and diverse representations of Germany.
Research centers on Cultural Memory Studies, specifically analyzing transnational Sites of Memory (Lieux de Mémoire) related to historically marginalized groups. Her work bridges German linguistics with critical examinations of collective memory across regional contexts.
Additional roles include Social Media Officer for the German Section (since October 2024) and prior teaching experience at a German IB school in Istanbul covering World History, Theory of Knowledge, and German. She previously worked as a DAAD language assistant at the University of Alexandria and taught Memory Studies at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
