Filippo Soramel is a University Assistant (Prae-Doc) at the Department of Economic and Social History and the Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Vienna (since 2024). He holds a PhD in History from the University of Vienna and Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne (2022), an MPhil in History from the University of Oxford (2018-2021), and a BA in Russian and History from University College London/Saint Petersburg State University/HSE Saint Petersburg (2014-2018).
His research focuses on 18th- and 19th-century European history, particularly agricultural societies, patriotism, Enlightenment-era sociability, and environmental history. Current projects include studying agricultural societies and state-building in the Eastern Alps (1762-1820), Venetian reformist networks, and the political economy of small-scale agriculture in Europe.
He has held grants such as the GO.INVESTIGATIO Fellowship (ÖAW, 2024), a Research Grant from the ERC Project on Austrian political prisoners (2024), and the Marietta Blau Fellowship (OeAD, 2025). He participates in networks like the Collège doctoral franco-allemand (Paris/LMU/Padua/Venice) and the Institut d’histoire moderne et contemporaine (Paris).
Awards include the Student Prize (2020) and scholarships from Mansfield College, Oxford (2019). He co-organized workshops on small-scale agriculture and collaborates with institutions across Europe on interdisciplinary historical projects.
