Professor Filippo Fontanelli holds the Personal Chair of International Law and Practice at the University of Edinburgh's School of Law, where he leads the Public International Law subject area. He holds an LLM from NYU and a PhD from the Sant'Anna School, and has practiced law at Cleary Gottlieb and the International Court of Justice. A fellow of the Higher Education Academy and member of the International Law Association, he also teaches as an adjunct at LUISS Rome and has visiting roles at Stockholm University and the University of Vienna. His research focuses on international economic law, human rights, and public international law, with recent work addressing Brexit's legal implications, WTO frameworks, and international arbitration. He advises the Scottish Parliament on trade law and has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and books, including analyses of the Kadi case and EU-UK trade dynamics. Fontanelli's awards include the Jerome Lipper Prize and Hauser Global LLM Fellowship. His work on procedural justice in international courts and Holocaust reparations highlights contributions to both theoretical and applied legal scholarship. He collaborates with institutions like the Council of Europe and Venice Commission, emphasizing practical policy impact alongside academic rigor.
