Filip Ciślak

Filip Ciślak is an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, specializing in graphic design with emphasis on poster creation and calligraphy. Born in 1988 in Żywiec, he earned both his Master's degree (2013) and Doctor of Fine Arts degree (2022) from his current institution, where he continues to teach and conduct research.

Research Focus:

Dr. Ciślak's artistic research centers on traditional and contemporary poster design techniques, with special attention to calligraphic elements in visual communication. His work bridges historical Polish poster traditions with modern design approaches, exploring how typography and visual symbolism convey cultural narratives. He has presented his creations at numerous international venues including multiple Poster Biennales in Katowice and Oświęcim, the International Triennial of Stage Poster in Sofia, and the International Poster Biennale in Mexico.

Dr. Ciślak maintains an active collaborative practice, notably working with Professor Roman Kalarus on award-winning projects. His editorial work on 'Cały Kalarus' demonstrates his commitment to documenting Polish design heritage while advancing contemporary practice through academic scholarship. His teaching schedule includes Wednesday classes from 8:50 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday classes from 8:50 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in room 207 at the Academy.
