Fiamma Riviera is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at The University of Western Australia. Her research focuses on ecological restoration, plant functional traits, and post-disturbance ecosystem recovery. She has contributed to major projects analyzing shrubland recovery after mining and improving restoration strategies using ecophysiological approaches.
Key research interests include vegetation dynamics, plant functional types, and conservation physiology. Her work integrates field studies with large-scale databases like the TRY plant trait database, enhancing understanding of global biodiversity patterns.
Dr. Riviera has published extensively on topics such as edaphic influences on plant life-history traits, restoration ecology, and adaptive management strategies. Her collaborative projects emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to ecological challenges.
She received the Dean's List award from the Graduate Research School in 2019, recognizing her contributions to academic excellence. Her research has been widely cited and engaged with across academic and policy communities.
Current and past grants include leadership in the 'Patterns and drivers of Banksia woodland recovery after mining' project (2021-2022), funded by the WA Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority.
