معرفی
Erik Veneklaas is a Professor at the School of Biological Sciences, The University of Western Australia (UWA). He holds roles as Graduate Research Coordinator and Program Leader of Ecophysiology at the ARC Centre for Mine-Site Restoration. He completed his PhD and Doctorandus in Biology from Utrecht University (Netherlands).
- Roles: Undergraduate teaching in plant ecology/physiology, Honours/Masters/PhD supervision, leadership in restoration ecophysiology.
- Research Focus: Ecohydrology, plant nutrient acquisition (especially phosphorus), drought tolerance, and restoration of degraded ecosystems. Specializes in Banksia woodlands and tropical ecosystems.
His research bridges fundamental plant physiology with applied ecological restoration, addressing global challenges like land rehabilitation and climate adaptation. Over 40 grants since 1993 (e.g., ARC Linkage Grants totaling millions) fund projects on mine-site restoration, plant-microbe interactions, and water-use efficiency.
Key contributions include discovering interspecific nutrient facilitation in Banksia woodlands and developing ecohydrological models for arid ecosystems. His work aligns with UN SDGs 13 (Climate Action), 15 (Life on Land), and 2 (Zero Hunger).
- Labs/Teams: ARC Centre for Mine-Site Restoration, Ecohydrology Research Group.
- Languages: Fluent in English, Spanish, and Dutch.
