Ferol Carytsas serves as the Director of the University of Florida (UF) Center for Arts in Medicine and a Lecturer in the Music department. Her roles include curriculum development, arts integration in healthcare, and fostering interdisciplinary education. She holds degrees from the University of Florida (M.M. in Music Education), Longy School of Music (Undergraduate Diploma in Viola Performance), and Florida State University (B.A. in Music).
Her research focuses on arts in health pedagogy, curriculum design, and the intersection of arts and healthcare environments. She co-developed the Undergraduate Certificate in Music in Medicine and received awards such as the UF Office of Teaching Excellence's Rising Star Award (2019) and the UF Teaching Excellence Fellowship (2022–2023). Her work emphasizes arts-based interventions in healthcare settings, including the UF Health Music Ensemble, which builds community among healthcare professionals.
Her publications explore language in arts education, curriculum standards, and the impact of arts programs on medical-surgical work environments. She contributed to the NOAH Code of Ethics and led national initiatives like the a2ru Community of Arts in Health Educators. Grants include an Internationalizing the Curriculum award and funding for her OER textbook project, The Impact of Music on Health.
