Charles W. Pickeral is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Music at the University of Florida. He specializes in interdisciplinary musicology, blending disciplines such as music, art, and spirituality. He developed the course “An Echo of the Invisible World”, which explores global and historical connections between music and culture. Additionally, he serves as Director of Operations for the School of Music, managing administrative tasks, course scheduling, and events like the Student Concerto Competition. He also acts as Graduate Coordinator for the DMA and PhD programs.
Dr. Pickeral holds a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts from Texas Tech University, an M.M. from Northern Illinois University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University. Before joining UF, he taught at Bluefield State College, Concord University, and Northern Michigan University, with prior experience as a freelance musician in Chicago.
His research and teaching span diverse topics, including avant-garde music, Occitan France’s musical expressions, Bluegrass/old-time authenticity, and Romanticism’s influence on contemporary culture. He is actively involved in the UF Honors program, designing interdisciplinary courses.
