Dr. Fernando A. Wagner is a Professor at the University of Maryland School of Social Work with over 45 years of research experience in the US and Mexico. His work focuses on developing community-based participatory interventions to promote wellness and public mental health through epidemiological approaches.
Education includes:
- Doctor of Science (DSc) in Mental Hygiene from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health (1999)
- Postdoctoral training in Psychiatric Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins (2000)
- Master of Public Health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins (1993)
Research interests center on public mental health promotion, community-engaged research methods, social/psychiatric epidemiology, and health equity. His work emphasizes participatory interventions addressing substance use, violence prevention, and mental health disparities through community-academic partnerships.
