Australian National University (ANU)معرفی
Fernanda Alves de Amorim is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Fenner School of Environment & Society, Australian National University. She is a conservation ecologist specializing in population ecology and management of threatened species and their habitats. Her research focuses on understanding how populations interact with the environment after landscape changes and how management interventions can help the persistence of populations.
Dr. Alves de Amorim has worked on numerous threatened species projects across various ecosystems in Brazil and Australia, including research on the Red-billed Curassow, Lear's Macaw, Restinga Tyrannulet, Carnaby's Cockatoo, Orange-bellied Parrot, and Swift parrot. She completed her Masters in Zoology at the University of São Paulo in Brazil in 2014, where she investigated population parameters and habitat selection by the endangered red-billed curassow (Crax blumenbachii). In 2015, she joined the Difficult Bird Research Group at the Australian National University as a research assistant, collaborating on several projects involving Tasmanian birds. She began her PhD at the Research School of Biology in 2017, focusing on the conservation and management of the endangered forty-spotted pardalote (Pardalotus quadragintus).
Her research spans conservation genetics, habitat modeling, population monitoring, and management interventions for endangered species. She has published extensively on topics including population size assessment, habitat selection, nest box effectiveness, and innovative conservation approaches like 'self-fumigation' of nests using insecticide-treated feathers. Her work often involves collaboration with multiple researchers across Australia and addresses critical conservation challenges facing threatened avian species.
Dr. Alves de Amorim's research outputs reveal a strong focus on practical conservation applications. Her recent publications demonstrate expertise in monitoring design, conservation genetics, habitat assessment, and management interventions for endangered species. She frequently applies spatial modeling techniques and population ecology principles to address conservation challenges, with particular emphasis on Australian threatened birds including parrots and songbirds.
