Dr. Ana Gracanin is a Research Fellow at the Fenner School of Environment & Society, Australian National University. Her research focuses on conservation and ecology of arboreal mammals in fragmented landscapes, with emphasis on population genetics, habitat connectivity, and wildfire impacts on species like the greater glider and spotted-tailed quoll. She has pioneered the use of camera traps and nest boxes for monitoring endangered species.
Education:
- PhD from University of Wollongong (2023)
- Bachelor of Conservation Biology (Honours I) from University of Wollongong (2018)
Her research interests include:
- Population genetics and movement patterns of endangered species
- Wildfire effects on habitat connectivity
- Ecological roles of tree hollows
- Wildlife corridor design using population genetics insights
Research Trends: Recent work emphasizes post-wildfire recovery mechanisms, innovative camera trap methodologies, and genomic approaches to assess population viability. Over 15 peer-reviewed articles since 2018 demonstrate her focus on combining field observations with advanced analytical techniques.
Current projects include evaluating wildlife crossing structures, greater glider risk assessments, and regulatory guidance for threatened species management.
