Ferdinando Branca is a Full Professor of Horticulture and Floriculture (AGRI-02/B) at the University of Catania. He is affiliated with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Di3A) and serves as a researcher in the Di3A program. His office is located at Via Valdisavoia, 5 - 2nd floor, Catania, and he is available for consultations via Microsoft Teams (code: akhju4k).
Dr. Branca's research focuses on germplasm conservation and characterization of wild and cultivated horticultural species, with emphasis on Brassicaceae and medicinal plants. He has conducted extensive work on low-environmental-impact cultivation systems, seed production, and biometric/biochemical/genetic characterization of plant species. His expertise includes studying glucosinolate profiles, disease resistance (e.g., Xanthomonas campestris), and post-harvest processing.
As a leader in international research, he coordinated the H2020 BRESOV project (GA 774274) and chairs the ISHS Division 'Vegetables, Roots, and Tubers'. He has held key roles in the European Coordinating Programme on Genetic Resources and ISHS working groups since 2006.
