Professor Fenella Gill is a leading academic in paediatric critical care nursing at Curtin University's School of Nursing, with a joint appointment at Perth Children’s Hospital. She specializes in improving patient safety through innovations like the ESCALATION System, adopted by over 120 WA hospitals. Her research focuses on clinical deterioration recognition, family engagement, and sepsis management. Gill chairs the West Australian Paediatric and Child Health Nursing Research Network and holds leadership roles in critical care education and policy. She has received numerous awards, including a 2016 Life Membership from the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses.
Her qualifications include a PhD from Curtin University (2014), Master of Nursing (2001), and a Paediatric Nursing Certificate (1991). She teaches in Curtin’s Postgraduate Critical Care Nursing Program and mentors early-career researchers. Current projects include optimizing the ESCALATION System and addressing cultural barriers in healthcare through initiatives like the Find Your Voice project funded by Telethon. Gill’s work integrates implementation science, consumer involvement, and translational research to drive systemic improvements in paediatric care.
