Dr. Felix Tettenborn is a Project Manager at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI and a Lecturer in the international master's program Water Technology for Contributions to Global Challenges and Sustainability at SRH University Heidelberg. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering and Environmental Technology from Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and has conducted research on nutrient recovery, decentralized wastewater systems, and micropollutant management.
His work focuses on sustainable infrastructure, ecological and economic assessment of water technologies, emission reduction of hazardous substances, and material flow management. He has led projects such as the Multi-stakeholder dialogue on the Trace Substance Strategy (2016–2019) and WaKap (2016–2019), addressing water desalination and resource recovery. His research emphasizes practical applications, including policy development, stakeholder engagement, and innovative treatment technologies.
Key contributions include studies on pharmaceutical residues in water, small hydropower climate benefits, and sustainable business models for decentralized water systems in Vietnam. Tettenborn’s interdisciplinary approach bridges technical innovation with socio-economic and policy contexts, aiming to advance global environmental sustainability.
