معرفی
Felix Loy, Dr., serves as an Academic Researcher at the Musicological Institute within the Faculty of Philosophy at Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. Since 2020, he has been a core member of the third-party funded project "New Schubert Edition," appointed in 2023 to its editorial management under the Academy of Sciences and Literature Mainz. His institutional base is Room 2.03 with contact via felix.loy@uni-tuebingen.de by appointment.
Loy specializes in editorial practice and historical musicology with focused expertise on George Frideric Handel's oratorios, Franz Schubert's complete works, and 18th-19th century Harmoniemusik (wind ensemble music). His research centers on court music traditions—particularly at the Fürstenberg Court in Donaueschingen—and editorial methodologies for sacred choral works by composers including Bach, Mendelssohn, and Rheinberger. Key themes across his publications include textual authenticity, performance practice reconstruction, and the intersection of liturgical context with compositional choices.
His recent scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with critical editing projects, particularly through the New Schubert Edition initiative. The 15 most recent publications reveal a dual focus: monographic studies of court music institutions (2011, 2014, 2021) and editorial contributions to major composers' complete works (Bach, Handel, Mozart, Schubert 2010-2020). These works collectively advance methodologies for reconstructing historical performance contexts while establishing authoritative editions for modern performers.
- 2023 Appointment to editorial management of the New Schubert Edition (AdW Mainz)
Loy's professional trajectory shows deep integration with scholarly editing institutions. After completing his doctorate at Tübingen in 2009 with a dissertation on Harmoniemusik at the Donaueschingen court, he worked as an editor at Carus-Verlag (2009-2012) and contributed to the Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Complete Edition (2004-2008). His current role in the New Schubert Edition represents the culmination of this editorial specialization, combining archival research with practical musicological application.
As part of the university's Musicological Institute, Loy contributes to Tübingen's broader research ecosystem in the humanities. His work intersects with the university's strengths in historical scholarship while supporting performance communities through critical editions used by ensembles like the Kammerchor Stuttgart and Salagon Quartett.
