Felix Jeschke

Felix Jeschke is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of East and Southeast European History at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU Munich), where he serves as Coordinator of the Elite Graduate Program in East European Studies and the Munich Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies. His office is located in the Historicum building at Schellingstraße 12.

He holds a PhD in Modern History (2011–2016), an MRes in East European Studies (2008–2010), and a BA in History (2005–2008), all from University College London. Prior to his current role, he was a Research Fellow at the Center for Theoretical Study (Charles University in Prague/Czech Academy of Sciences) and a Project Consultant for a Bavarian-Czech INTERREG project.

Jeschke's research focuses on the interplay of nationalism, infrastructure, and space in Central and Eastern Europe. His work examines railways as instruments of nation-building in interwar Czechoslovakia, the cultural history of tourism in Slavic regions, and postwar refugee historiography. His publications consistently explore how transportation networks and borders shape collective identities.

His monograph Iron Landscapes: National Space and the Railways in Interwar Czechoslovakia received the Czechoslovak Studies Association Book Prize in 2023. Reviews highlight its innovative analysis of railways as both physical infrastructure and symbols of modernity in Czechoslovak nation-building.

As coordinator of LMU's graduate programs, Jeschke oversees interdisciplinary research initiatives on Eastern Europe. He co-edited the volume Eastern European Munich: Displaced Persons and Refugees in the Postwar Period (2025), contributing a chapter on Munich's Eastern European historiography.
