Dr Felicity Loughlin is a Lecturer in the History of Modern Christianity at the University of Edinburgh's School of Divinity. Her research focuses on the role of religion in shaping self, society, and global interactions, with expertise in Scottish, British, and European contexts. She explores Christian engagement with non-Abrahamic religions, religious debates, and responses to cultural/intellectual shifts.
Qualifications: MA (Hons) History and Classics, MSc Theology in History, PhD in History (all from University of Edinburgh). Professional roles include Treasurer of the Scottish Church History Society and Director of Recruitment. She holds a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Her current research project examines unbelief and the Scottish Christian landscape (1697–1914), building on her doctoral work on the Scottish Enlightenment’s engagement with global non-Abrahamic religions. A monograph based on her thesis is forthcoming with Oxford University Press.
