Dr. Fekade Bruck Sime is an NHMRC Emerging Leadership Fellow and Affiliate Research Fellow at the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Queensland. With a PhD from the University of South Australia, he has established himself as a leading researcher in antimicrobial therapy, particularly focusing on pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics and antibiotic dosing optimization for critically ill patients. His work bridges clinical practice and pharmaceutical science, with significant contributions to outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) programs and drug stability studies.
Dr. Sime's research interests center on antimicrobial therapy, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, antibiotic dosing optimization, critical care pharmacology, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy, and drug stability studies. His work addresses critical challenges in antimicrobial resistance and optimal drug delivery, with particular emphasis on translating pharmacometric principles into clinical practice. He has developed expertise in hollow-fiber infection models, therapeutic drug monitoring, and population pharmacokinetic modeling to optimize antimicrobial regimens.
His publication record shows consistent high-impact contributions, with recent work focusing on international OPAT practices, antibiotic stability in elastomeric devices, cost-effectiveness of OPAT programs, and pharmacokinetic studies of various antimicrobials including colistin, polymyxin B, and antifungals. The research demonstrates a clear progression from fundamental pharmacokinetic studies to implementation research addressing real-world healthcare challenges.

Dr. Sime actively supervises multiple PhD students on topics related to antimicrobial therapy optimization, resistance prevention, and OPAT implementation. His collaborative approach is evident in his extensive co-authorship with international researchers across multiple institutions. His work has practical implications for antimicrobial stewardship programs and hospital pharmacy practice worldwide.
