Dr. Federica Tamburella is an Associate Professor at Link Campus University in Rome, affiliated with the Department of Life Sciences, Health and Health Professions (academic rank: MED/48). She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences and Engineering from Aalborg University (Denmark) and a Doctorate in Osteopathy from C.E.R.D.O. Her career includes roles as a Physiotherapist in Translational Clinical Research at the I.R.C.C.S. Fondazione Santa Lucia’s NeuroRobot Lab and SpiRe Lab since 2006.
Her research focuses on neurological rehabilitation, particularly spinal cord injuries and stroke. Key areas include robotic tools for gait recovery, clinical gait/balance analysis, and novel rehabilitation strategies. She has led international projects funded by the European Community, including studies on exoskeletal robotic technologies and muscle strengthening training. Currently, she directs a Horizon project evaluating AI-robot collaboration in stroke rehabilitation.
Dr. Tamburella has authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles (H-Index 21), book chapters, and presents globally at conferences. She trains healthcare professionals in robotic technologies and teaches in academic master’s programs on neurorehabilitation and spinal cord injury management.
As a Principal Investigator, she has coordinated projects on patient-physiotherapist interaction in robotics and motor training efficacy. Her expertise spans clinical research, technology application, and professional education.
