Federica Mazzara

Federica Mazzara is Reader in Cultural Studies at the University of Westminster's School of Humanities. She researches migration, art, and media, with a focus on subversive cultural practices in Europe.

Her work explores how art and activism challenge dominant narratives of migration. She authored Reframing Migration: Lampedusa, Border Spectacle and Aesthetics of Subversion (2019) and is writing Mocking the Border: Carnivalesque Resistance in Times of Migration.

Mazzara leads the British Academy project 'Migrants in Transit' (2023-2025) and co-coordinated the Erasmus+ Project MIGRANT. She serves as review editor for Crossings: Journal of Migration and Culture.
