Fauzia Ahmed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Gerontology at Miami University. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Policy from Brandeis University (2003), an S.M. in Health Policy and Management from Harvard University, and an A.B. in Biology from Harvard University. Her research focuses on gender and development, masculinity, Islam, labor dynamics, and globalization, with particular attention to Bangladesh and South Asian contexts.
Her professional experience includes roles as a David E. Bell Fellow at Harvard School of Public Health (2003-2004) and Visiting Scientist at the Women's Health Initiative Program (2012-2014). Her work bridges academic research with field experiences in NGOs, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and community-based initiatives in India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Bangladesh. She teaches courses on globalization, feminism, and Islam's role in development.
Her research publications explore themes such as gender governance in labor markets, marital quality in rural Bangladesh, and the interplay between Islamic jurisprudence and feminist governance. She has contributed to debates on poverty alleviation strategies, postcolonial leadership models, and the cultural dimensions of economic globalization.
