معرفی
Dr. Fatima Pereira is a Lecturer and Principal Investigator in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Southampton, UK. Her research focuses on understanding interactions between gut microbes and their host, particularly how nutrient sharing and host-derived molecules influence microbiome composition and host health. She investigates drug-microbiome interactions, including the impact of non-antibiotic drugs on gut microbiota, and explores roles of host-secreted RNA in inflammatory bowel disease.
- Education:
- PhD in Molecular Biology (NOVA University of Lisbon, 2014)
- BSc in Biological Engineering (Technical University of Lisbon, 2006)
- Previous Roles:
- Principal Investigator (University of Vienna, 2019–2022)
- Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (University of Vienna, 2014–2019)
Her lab employs molecular biology, genomics, and metabolomics to study microbiome dynamics. Current projects include large-scale drug screening and functional analysis of microbial communities. She teaches microbiology and supervises MSc/BSc projects. Dr. Pereira is a reviewer for the American Society for Microbiology and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives like the Microbiology Precision Biosciences Innovation Hub.
