Fareeda Griffith is an Adjunct Professor of Sociology at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Arts & Sciences. She also serves as Managing Director of the Coalition for Equity and Opportunity. Her research focuses on the intersection of health, race, ethnicity, and population dynamics with a transnational perspective emphasizing Africa, immigrant communities, and Latin America (particularly Brazil). She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania (2009), along with MA degrees in Sociology, Demography, and a BA in Sociology from Paine College.
Her research agenda examines healthcare access barriers for immigrant youth, racial residential segregation patterns, and the wellbeing of marginalized groups during crises like the Covid-19 pandemic. She has developed mentoring frameworks for women of color in academia and contributed to cervical cancer prevention programs in South Africa. Griffith is affiliated with multiple professional organizations including the American Sociological Association and Union for African Population Studies.
Publications span topics from post-apartheid demography to immigrant health disparities, demonstrating her expertise in transnational sociological research. Her work bridges quantitative demographic analysis with qualitative ethnographic methods, addressing both policy implications and grassroots community needs.
