Fangyi Chen

Associate Professor Fangyi Chen is affiliated with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). She holds degrees in Biomedical Engineering from Tsinghua University (BSc and MSc) and a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Boston University.

Her research focuses on auditory and vestibular physiology, including cochlear dynamics, development of mobile hearing/balance testing systems, and automated behavioral analysis in animal models. She has pioneered a vestibular function testing system for zebrafish and mice that quantifies eye movements to assess semicircular canal and otolith damage.

Her work has been published in top journals like Nature Neuroscience, Journal of Neuroscience, and Behavioral Brain Research. Collaborative partners using her research instruments include Stanford University, University of Virginia, and Tsinghua University.

She has held leadership roles as Vice President of Zhiren College at SUSTech since 2013 and previously worked at Oregon Health & Science University (2005-2012) in roles ranging from Postdoctoral Fellow to Research Engineer.
