Fang Zheng is an Associate Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. His research focuses on glutamate receptors and their roles in neurological diseases such as epilepsy, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and schizophrenia. Using molecular, biochemical, and electrophysiological techniques, his lab investigates mechanisms of excitotoxicity, neurodegeneration, and calcium signaling.
- Education: Ph.D. from University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (1994)
His NIH-funded work includes studies on zinc-dependent desensitization of NMDA receptors and canonical transient receptor potential (TRPC) channels in epilepsy. Recent publications highlight TRPC3/6/7 channels as therapeutic targets and their roles in seizure pathophysiology, neurovascular coupling, and hypertension. He has contributed to understanding TRPC channel heteromerization and pharmacology in excitotoxicity.
While no scientific awards are listed, his research has been supported by NIH/NINDS grants (R01 NS039418, R01 NS058503). His work spans from 1991 to 2024, emphasizing molecular determinants of receptor function and neuroprotective strategies.
